Recently in San Juan, Puerto Rico, amongst a slow reconstruction of the island, fashion designers Jaer Caban, Eddie Guerrero, Angel Guzman, and Sonia Santiago presented some of the best all around collections I’ve seen in a while, leaving us at awe with their creativity and off the hook proposals for next season.
These and other collections by local designers sent a much needed message: The show must go on in order for the island to return to some kind of normalcy.
Los desfiles were part of a much larger group of designers that took part in a local fashion and social event.
Three months ago the Caribbean island was struck by category 4 hurricane Maria, which destroyed much of Puerto Rico, but it did not slow down the amazing amount of talent and hope the local fashion industry possesses.
Oddly enough three days of fashion shows took place right after the atmospheric phenomena at the Old Casino of Puerto Rico, and some very clever and feminine designs were shown.
Most designers do very well in the island and abroad, and are sought out by socialites, brides and prom girls.
The collections offered a wide variety of themes and much of what was presented was done with great passion, a keen sense of color, and a special emphasis in good craftsmanship.
Fashion designers in Puerto Rico are open for business and are sending out a message of creative perseverance and beauty.
Besides beautiful beaches, great restaurants, and amazing nature Puerto Rico is more than ever the fashion hub of the Caribbean.
